Warplay Miniature Wargames
Below is a selection of our models and table-tops that have been used to play our miniature games at various Warfair Conventions and other gatherings. Not all of Warplay's games or table-tops are shown here but these have been included and we hope you enjoy them. "Rebels and Redcoats" and "Gladius", two more miniature games, will be included when photos of the table and miniatures are completed. We encourage mail-ins, so send us pictures of your miniatures and/or gaming tables and we will post them here. Thanks for viewing!!
Buccaneers of the Caribbean
A featured game at all Warfair conventions, these are some of my scratch-built 28mm pirate ships and a government frigates used in game play. Many other commercially produced resin ships are also used on an 8' x 12' play surface complete with islands and forts. The scratch-built ships are constructed of balsa wood covered styrofoam, with cloth sails and mast made from dowels. The vessel at the left is the "Little Ranger" and next to her is the sloop "Siren Etta". All are armed with 6-pound cannons. Last in line is the British warship HMS Royal Fortune, recently reacquired from some pesky pirates. She too is being refitted and prepared to duties against the cursed marauders that plague the shipping lanes of the Caribbean.
Silverado

Next in line are some western type buildings from our 28mm "Silverado" game. It is a fast paced game recreating gunfights in the Old West and when set up, the town contains over 26 buildings of which all but a few were scratch-built from form board and balsa wood. The town also contains a modified western train with scratch built caboose and fright cars. This is a massive layout, that has grown so large that it is difficult to take "on the road" and so it use is limited to our game room. I painted a number of gangs and local lawmen that are often used to recreate famous gunfights and bank hold-ups such as the Shootout at the OK Corral and the Coffeeville Raid.
Clash of Eagles
Another large scale game, "Clash of Eagles", is a recreation of the famous assault on the Alamo by General Santa Anna in the early morning hours of 6 March 1836. The Alamo compound alone, which requires a table space of 5' x 6', has been the scene of many battles at various Warfair miniature conventions over the past 5 years but is now limited to use in our game room only due to its size. I have done a great deal of "modifying" in order to make the compound more historically accurate. The base model, from Hudson & Allen, contains the entire compound complete with Chapel, plaza and hospital. The over 500 miniatures used in the game were hand painted by myself, Dennis Layson, Dan Fox and other avid miniature wargamers.
Rebels & Redcoats
The above game tables are used in "Rebels and Redcoats", a miniature wargame primarily designed to recreate battles during the Southern Campaign (1781) of the American Revolution. The blue farmhouse is from Miniature Building Authority as is Granny's Cabin. The gray stone homestead comes unpainted from JR Miniatures. The other buildings and windmill I scratch-built from balsa wood and the fences are were constructed using wooden matchsticks. The play surface measure 8' x 4' and is a "fold-out flocked commercially made item. Hopefully, by this fall, all of my Colonial forces will be painted, mounted and ready for "battle". Currently, all of the "Rebel's" are Old Glory miniatures (from the collection of David Clayton) and the British forces are Front Rank Miniatures from my collection.
