The Dark Days of the Pacific Theater in WWII (1941-42)

Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States would find itself prematurely thrust in a global conflict being fought on opposite ends of the globe. In the Pacific, stalwart island garrisons of Marines and Sailors would come face to face with a tenacious over-powering foe who were motivated by an uncompromising obedience to orders and impassioned with a sense of honor that required that they perform that mission regardless of the cost in human lives. The American home spun beliefs of fairness and compassion, imbued in the Marines and Sailors of our under-manned and poorly equipped Defense Battalions, would swiftly give way to the stark reality that the Japanese forces, who  stormed onto the beaches, placed no such credence in our lofty values. After four years of bitter and desperate fighting, we would eventually prevail. However, until that time, especially in the opening months of the war, the resolve of the American forces would be continually tested, and the "Issue in Doubt" would be the hallmark of scores of isolated islands and atolls that dotted the Pacific Theater of Operations. This is their story, rarely portrayed and mostly unknown, in the exciting past-time of WWII miniature wargaming until now. The courage, sacrifice and tenacious resistance of the US Defense Battalions and their gallant Allies, in the face of great suffering and overwhelming odds, will now be recreated, in miniature game play as a testament to what uncommon valor and indomitable bravery really means.

Part 2

Coming Next........

Wake Island, 23 December 1941

It is planned to have another Pacific early war scenario in the near future and to host a game at the upcoming Siege of Augusta (Augusta, Georgia) in January, 2012. As in the first battle, the next game will be in 20mm scale, armor may be present, but in  very minimal numbers, and FLAMES OF WAR rules will be used in this game as well, with weapons ranges and effects remaining basically unchanged. More on the next game and the planned scenario as well as our "show on the road" to the convention in Augusta in January 2011, coming soon.  ............................."Always Faithful"
